Johannes Leonhard was born in 1858 in Darmstadt and died in 1913 in the Sanatorium Haunstein near Deggendorf, Bavaria. He studied as a pupil of Loeffs and was assistant of F. Roubaud in Tiflis, Caucasus. The artist was later active in Munich. He was a portrait and genre painter and illustrator.
