This very nice miniature on ivory with portrait of a young lady in blue dress meets stylistic criteria of works by the well known Austrian-Russian miniaturist Carl Kronnowetter. Comparisons with his other two miniatures (see our additional images: first - with portrait of Empress Maria Fedorovna in the Collection of the House of Orange-Nassau, and second - with a portrait of Princess Marie of Saxe-Weimar from Collection of Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar) convincingly confirm this attribution.
Carl Kronnowetter (1795 Vienna - 1837 St. Petersburg) was a son of a painter on porcelain Franz Kronnowetter. He studied at the Academy of Vienna, undertook study trips to Italy, and, from 1821, worked in Russia. In 1831 the artist came back to Vienna for some time, but soon returned to St. Petersburg. Works of Kronnowetter are to be seen in various Russian, Austrian, German and Scandinavian museum collections.
