This superior quality oil on copper miniature with portrait of a young Dutch gentleman meets all stylistic criteria of works by the well known portrait artist of the 17th century, Carel de Moor. Our additional images with comparisons convincingly confirm this statement.

Carel de Moor (1656 Leyden - 1738 Warmond) was a son of an artist and art dealer also named Carel de Moor (precisely for that reason, the artist was often referred to as Carel de Moor the Younger).
He was a pupil of G. Dou and F.v. Mieris in Leyden, continuing his studies under Abr. v.d. Tempel in Amsterdam, and under G. Schalcken in Dordrecht. In 1683, he became a member of the Leydener Guild. He was a very popular portraitist, who was in 1714 ennobled by the Emperor Charles VI. Works of Carel de Moor are displayed in various international museums.
