William John Newton (1785 London - 1869 ibid.) studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1807. He may have been a member of a volunteer corps of artists, 1803. Newton exhibited at the R.A. and British Institute in 1808-1863. He was quite popular and had a distinguished clientele, which included many royal and titled persons, members of Parliament and fellow artists.
