Paul Matthias Padua (1903-1981) "Portrait of an art lover" oil painting, 1949 7000 EUR - 25% DISCOUNT = 5250,00 EUR Paul Matthias Padua (1903 Salzburg - 1981 Rottach-Egern, Bavaria) was an autodidact (he visited the Academy only for a brief period) who was very much influenced by Wilhelm Leibl. Padua was internationally regarded as one of the most popular portrait artists. He portrayed composers Richard Strauss, Han Pfitzner, Paul Linke, Franz Lehar, Werner Egk, Boris Bacher, conductors Clemens Krauss and Herbert von Karajan, writers Gerhard Hauptmann and Anette Kolb, as well as actors, singers, scientists, industrial magnates, politicians and a great number of other famous contemporaries. Padua was also very successful as a landscapist, still-life and genre painter. Exhibitions of his work took place regularly from 1920s to 1960s (among others, in Munich, Cologne, Wiesbaden, Baden-Baden; also abroad: Paris, London, New-York, etc.).
