Gertrude (Trude) Hozatko-Mediz, daughter of the famous Karl Mediz and Emilie Mediz-Pelikan, was a well-known Austrian female artist. She grew up with her grandparents in Krems, Lower Austria, and was deeply attached to her mother. Fifteen-yerar-old Gertrude Mediz deeply grieved at her mother's death in 1908. She could never completely recover from this loss, which found expression in her art. Works of Gertrude Hozatko-Mediz bear a strong spiritual and mystical message.
