David Davidovich Burliuk (1822-1967) "Flowers by the sea", small oil painting, 1950/60s 10000 EUR - 25% DISCOUNT = 7500,00 EUR David Davidovich Burliuk (1882 Semirotovshchina, Kharkov Province - 1967 Long Island, New York) was the father of the Russian Futurism. He was born in the Ukraine, studied at the Art Schools of Kazan and Odessa, in 1902-03 at the Munich Academy under W.v.Diez, in 1904 in Paris with Fernand Cormon and in 1911-14 at the Moscow College of Painting and Sculpture under Leonid Pasternak. In Moscow he became acquainted with Vladimir Mayakovsky. In 1907 Burliuk founded a group called "Venok" (Garland), which exhibited throughout Russia during the years 1907-10. In 1911 he became co-founder of the futuristic group "Hylaea". In 1912 he travelled to Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy, got to know Vasili Kandinsky in Odessa. In 1912/13 Burliuk took part in an exhibition at the Blue Rider in Munich and at the 1. Autumn Salon at the Gallery Sturm in Berlin. Burliuk belonged to the artists who signed the futuristic manifest "Slap the Public Taste" (engl. transl.) together with Mayakovsky, Khlebnikov, Kruchenykh, etc. He made drawings and wrote poems for futuristic books, exhibited with the group Jack of Diamonds in Siberia in 1920 amidst the Civil War. Burliuk then fled to Japan, moved to New York and was further active as a painter and art critic. In 1930 he became an American citizen. Works by David Burliuk are displayed in the greatest museums of the world. Provenance: private collection, Florida / USA
