This miniature bears on verso an authentic old (made by the artist?) inscription. "Petters ( or "Petter:" - B.W. ) /Wien /1821". It is with great likelihood an original work of well-known Vienna flower painter of the Biedermeier period, Franz Xaver Petter (for comparison, see our images nr.10-14).
Franz Xaver Petter (1791 Vienna - 1866 ibidem) was a leading Austrian flower painter in the 1st half of 19th century. He was a pupil of J.B. Drechsler and S. Wegmayr at the Vienna Academy; from 1814 - taught at the School of Flower Drawing of the Academy; from 1832 was a Professor of the Drawing School of the Royal Porcelain Manufactory, and from 1835 - its Director.
His flower paintings were very popular in Austrian high society circles. Today, they belong to the most esteemed museum collections in Austria and worldwide. They achieve remarkable prices at the international art auction market (see our additional images).
