Mlle de Saint-Martin (fl. 1740/1756) "Portrait of a Young Aristocrat", extremely rare miniature, 1758

Although she is not mentioned in many standard sources about portrait miniatures, Mlle de Saint-Martin was found by us as a listed portrait artist of the mid of 18th century in Neil Jeffares' "Dictionary of pastelists before 1800" (online edition, see our image nr. 10 ). According to Mr Jeffares "Mlle de Saint-Martin was a member of the Parisian Academie de Saint-Luc rue Saint-André-des-Arts. Between 1751 and 1756 she exhibited fifteen portraits, of which one is identified as in oil; some (sic!) of the others are large enough probably to be in the same medium but one speculates that some of the remaining items could be in pastel."
Our, dated 1740 miniature proves that Mlle de Saint-Martin was also an outstanding miniaturist.
