Joseph van Severdonck (1819-1905) "Portrait of a semi-nude boy", oil on canvas, mid of 19th century 4500 EUR Joseph van Severdonck (1819 Brussels - 1905 ibidem) was a well-known Belgian painter of history, military and religious subjects. He was pupil of G. Waapers, later teacher of Queen Marie-Henriette of the Belgians. In 1865 he was nominated for a drawing teacher at the Brussels Academy. He also gave lessons in painting with J. Stallaert and A. Robert. Severdonck was a regular exponent (Gold medal in 1851 at the Brussels Salon and in 1859 at the exhibition in The Hague, also medals in Philadelphia, Cologne and Vienna). Our image nr.9 shows a similar painting of his, offered at the art auction in 2008.
