Mlle Elisabeth Terroux was born in Geneva on July 25, 1759 as a daughter of local clock-maker Abraham Terroux. She studied painting on enamel in Geneva and was a pupil of F. Favre. She gained acclaim not only at home but also in Russia, where she became a popular artist.
