Johann Michael Holder (1796 Hidrizheim - 1861 Stuttgart) studied in Stuttgart, Munich, Dresden, Prague and Paris, copying numerous old master paintings in miniature. For his work, Holder was made the honorary member of the Academy of Dresden. In 1836 he studied at the Academy of St. Petersburg, where he painted a portrait of his fellow-student A.J. Sauerweid and showed a portrait of the artist A. Varneck at the academic exhibition. Also in St. Petersburg, Holder produced some paintings in oil.
