This signed and dated 1835 miniature is one more work of the well-.known German miniaturist Johann Michael Holder in our possession. It cannot be ruled out that this work was executed by him in St. Petersburg where he is mentioned in next 1836 (see below).

Johann Michael Holder (1796 Hidrizheim - 1861 Stuttgart) studied in Stuttgart, Munich, Dresden, Prague and Paris, copying numerous old master paintings in miniature. For his work, Holder was made the honorary member of the Academy of Dresden. In 1836 he studied at the Academy of St. Petersburg, where he painted a portrait of his fellow-student A.J. Sauerweid and showed a portrait of the artist A. Varneck at the academic exhibition. Also in St. Petersburg, Holder produced some paintings in oil.
Amongst his sitters were royalties and statesmen (for example, King of Wuerttemberg, Minister Otto, Duke Adolf von Nassau, Prince Alexander Hohenlohe, Prince von Bayern, etc.).
