This miniature portrait of a richly decorated Spanish officer (see for comparison our web #40994 ) is mentioned in at least two publications: firstly, in the sale catalogue of the Vente Bernard-Franck (February 1935; sale of the famous collection of Napoleonica amassed by French industrialist Bernard Franck* (see below a brief background note about him, as well as our image nr.12)) and secondly, in the article about the portrait's author, Parma miniaturist Andrea Piazza, in Schidlof's "The miniature in Europe" (erroneously titled - see our image nr.11).

**M. Bernard-Franck was a veteran of the 1870 Franco-Prussian War, who later in life became a wealthy manufacturer of military equipment. He had a very important collection of paintings and works of art from the Napoleonic Epoch.

P.S. 16 June 2017:
We just received e-mail from our permanemt adviser in Spanish military uniforms, well-known military historian Luis Sorando Muzas, in which the latter informs us that the sitter wears an uniform of "Reales Guardias del Cuerpo" (Spanish Garde du Corps) and that some of his awards were added by (another?) artist after 1821 (the date of this miniature's execution).
