Dated 1761, this miniature portrait shows a young noblewoman with her favorite lapdog and parrot. An extreme rarity at the current antique market, it is a work of French artist Guillaume Gabriel Bouton - namesake and father of the miniaturist Joseph Marie Bouton, also represented in our collection.

Works of Bouton-Senior are rare finds at today's art market!

Guillaume-Gabriel Bouton (1730 Cuxac d'Aude - 1782 Toulouse) was a father (and teacher) of the miniaturist Joseph-Marie Bouton and grand-father of the female artist and also a miniaturist Anne Cammas, married Guibal. He settled in Toulouse, where he became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting. In 1764, in Madrid, Bouton portrayed the King Karl III of Spain; in 1767, in Lisbon - the King Joseph I of Portugal, the Queen Marianne, and the Prime-Minister Marquis de Pombal. He stayed in Madrid as a Court Artist until 1775.
Works of Bouton-Senior are rare finds at today's art market!
