Maxim (Massimo) Gauci was born in 1776 in Valetta, Malta and died in 1854 (presumably in London). He obtained his first study from Michele Bassutti. In 1798 he studied at the Academia di San Luca in Rome. In 1804 he married in Paris and travelled in the next several years to the Middle East and Egypt. In 1809 he settled in London where he worked in cooperation with his sons Paul and W.G.. He was primarily active as a portrait lithograph but made also miniatures on ivory.
