Joseph Tassy was a painter of portraits in oils and miniatures on ivory, who worked in Paris. In 1791 he participated in the Salon exhibition with a frame containing several miniatures. Tassy, says Schidlof, is practically unknown because he signed very rarely (sic!). Schidlof further writes, that "one could put Tassy in the same class as Henard, but sometimes he shows proof of a surprising talent. His miniatures of the first period - about 1785 - are influenced by Hall, later - about 1800 - they resemble works of such great artists as Grassi, Bossi, Lesseur.
